Field guide 01

Scope the work before you price the iron.

A clear brief gets a better response from heavy plant suppliers. Use this practical checklist to turn a machine request into a project-ready enquiry.

01

Define the production task

State the material, quantity, cycle distance, lift requirement, ground condition and target programme. A machine class alone rarely communicates enough.

02

Confirm site constraints

Record access width, overhead restrictions, gradients, bearing capacity, exclusion zones, noise windows, washdown and induction requirements.

03

Set the hire model

Decide whether the package needs wet hire, dry hire, operated hire or a managed fleet. Confirm responsibility for fuel, maintenance and standby.

04

Plan mobilisation

Check float permits, escorts, loading areas, travel distance and demobilisation timing. Regional work can make logistics a material part of the quote.

05

Verify compliance

Ask for the documents your principal or site requires, including plant risk assessments, service records, operator competencies and insurance.

06

Compare like with like

Align rates, minimum hours, overtime, attachments, travel, fuel, cleaning, damage terms and cancellation conditions before selecting a supplier.
